We are Kielder Area Horse Trails
In 1999, the Forestry Commission agreed a concordat with the British Horse Society allowing open access to a number of woodlands. Most woods, which are
owned freehold by the Forestry Commission, are open for Horse Riding.
The mission of Kielder Area Horse Trails (KAHT) is to promote horse riding and carriage driving activities in the Kielder Forest area.
We will also provide the Forestry Commission with any feedback from riders concerning suggestions for improvement or general maintenance issues.
KAHT is a non profit organisation run by volunteers. Our aim is also to establish, in conjunction with the Forestry Commission, Kielder Partnership and other landowners a number of waymarked routes spread around the area.
These way marked routes can then be used both by local riders and visitors to the area. We will also point out areas where you can park, eat and stay overnight.
We welcome any comments from riders, local and visitors, that we can use to improve or maintain the excellent network of tracks available, please contact us on the link provided.
Also, if anyone is interested in joining us, we would love to hear from you.
Information supplied on these pages is not intended to be definitive and you should always use a good quality map such as Ordnance Survey 1:25000 series OL42 Kielder Water. Please also check our link to the Forestry Commission website to check on the existence of any forestry operations in the area in which you intend to ride.
